Rajasthan has got good variety of goats. Goat plays a very significant role in economic upliftment of rural poor. This sector has tremendous potential in employment generation and poverty reduction. Goat is a multi-functional animal and plays a significant role in the economy and nutrition of landless, small and marginal farmers in the country. Goat rearing is an enterprise which has been practiced by a large section of population in rural areas. Goat rearing is seen as a feasible money generating activity because of small piece of land of the people of Gangapur Block under Sawai Madhopur district. Goats are easy to feed on zero grazing and increase production in a very short time. Goat rearing equipped the 10 SHG’s with knowledge and skills of improving on their families’ standards of living as increased income. Goat has been described as a poor man’s cow (or mini-cow) because of its immense contribution to the poor man’s economy. They not only supply nutritious and easily digestible milk to their children but also regular source of additional income for poor farmers and women. Being smallsized animals, goats were easily managed by women and children. Feeding, milking and care of goats did not require much equipment and hard work. Capital investment and feeding costs are also quite low. Goats were successfully reared in areas where fodder resources are limited. In rural areas, goat farming plays a vital role in providing gainful employment. The people were very happy with this programme which gave them good income without much hard work. Our society is looking forward to give such income generating project to the people.
