II. INTRODUCTION
ü This report is prepared based on the project objectives, activities, and budget and based on the implementation, field experience and consultation with the field staff during the review and evaluation meeting.

ü The animators and the coordinators under the guidance of the Director, the Programme Manager and the Women Coordinators during the review meeting helped for the evaluation, planning, and report writing.

ü Information was gathered from the Daily Diary of the Animators, the Coordinators, the field observations, and the feedback from the target groups.

III.PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION STATUS:
Base line survey :

The initiation of the project commenced with a baseline survey which lasted for 3months by the Animators and the coordinator of Sakhi Project. Total number of girls interviewed was 1419. The survey provided us with detailed data of adolescent girls such as education, health, life skill, gender, their knowledge and understanding on existing Laws pertaining to Adolescent girls and women. Through social and seasonal mapping we gained detailed information of the communities where the target groups belong and of the seasonal crops and festivals etc.

Sakhi Launching program:

The launching of Sakhi program was held in Jatwara Panchayat on 25th June, 2014. The invited guests were the CDPO, the Doctor from PHC centre, the Sarpanch, the Police In charge, ANMs, AWW, ASHA, CBO members, the Panchyat members, the Principal of Tehtara school and 200 Adolescent girls and parents of some of the girls. The CDPO in her inaugural address spoke to the girls on the importance of education, aim in life and the need to empower themselves. The Police In charge spoke to the girls regarding their security and protection and how to inform police in case of any problem they face from the boys. The Sakhi Project was then launched by the Chief guest by opening the Power Point presentation on Sakhi Project. Mr. Paul the Programme Manager highlighted the aims, objectives, and activities of Sakhi project to the participants. The CDPO and other government departments wholeheartedly welcomed the Project and assured their support.

The Project Orientation to the Project staff: An orientation program to the staff was organized on 7th July at Jeevandhara office. The program was conducted by the Director, the Programme Manager, and the Women coordinator. Mr. Rajendra Sharma highlighted the aims, objectives and activities of the Sakhi project. The Director asked the staff to prepare an action plan for 6 months, and spoke to them on the responsibility of the coordinator, the animators and the vocational instructor. He instructed them to concentrate more on result and changes they make in the lives of the beneficiaries, rather than just conducting the activity and forgetting it. The programme manager introduced the reporting format for the monthly review meeting. Sr. Ranjana emphasized on the need to pay more attention on ensuring better participation of parents during the parent teachers and adolescent meetings.

Group work: 24 group works were conducted in 50 works. 867 adolescent girls were present there in 12 villages. Bindu Rao and Ms. Indra Sharma spoke on issues related to domestic violence and menstruation and physical changes that occurs during adolescent age.

Home visits by the Animators

22 home visit activities by animators in target villages. 175 participants present there. During their visit they emphasized on Girls Education, right age of marriage, family Planning and domestic violence & pre marital & post marital counseling. These visits by the animators have created more awareness on the existing girls’ issues among the beneficiaries in the village.

Four Advance stitching Centers were opened at the above target villages. The Sakhi team motivated and enlisted the needy adolescent girls for tailoring. Henceforth tailoring centers were opened in different villages. Fr. Lawrence and Sr. Ranjana highlighted the importance and necessity of learning the art of stitching. Adolescent girls were coming regularly to learn tailoring. The instructors taught the practical and theoretical aspects of tailoring. Towards the end of the course, we conducted a written test for all to evaluate their level of knowledge. Some adolescent girls managed to purchase stitching/ sewing machines and started practicing at home.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PROGRAM

  • The objective and significance of the training was highlighted by the coordinator
  • The resource person highlighted the importance of education, aim in life, disadvantages of child marriage and the inhuman practice of Purdha System.

  • Resource persons explained that violence against women occurs in 4 forms 1. Physical violence 2. Gender based violence 3. Emotional violence 4. Financial violence.
  • Explained that if any woman or a girl meets with violence, she can immediately lodge an FIR in the concerned police station then a writ petition may be filed to the magistrate for protection.
  • It was found from the feedback session that most of the girls had understood the Domestic Violence Act, 2005.

Lobbying with the Govt. Authorities to Prevent Child Marriage:

Two meetings were conducted at Jatwara and Patan Panchayat on 20th August, 2014. There were 29 participants consisting of PRI members and Anganwadi workers. Mrs. Indra Sharma and Mrs. Bindu Rao, the animators of the Sakhi project explained the disadvantages of child marriage and discussed the possibilities of eliminating it and also motivated the PRI members and the AWWs to work towards it.

Three batches of computer course were conducted in three villages. Program started with prayer song. The programs were organized by Mr. Rajender Kumar Sharma, the project coordinator of the Sakhi Project. Mr. Sharma highlighted the importance of computer education for girls in the modern world and the purpose of the computer training centre. He said that these centres would be open for 2 hours daily for a period of 3 Months for girls of the village. Fr. Lawrence, the director of JSKS and PRI member inaugurated the Centre with the Ceremony of Cutting Ribbon. After the inauguration the director addressed the audience highlighting the importance of computer education in the lives of girls in the modern age. Some of the girls’ parents said that their daughters would definitely get benefited from the course.

NETWORKING WITH THE KEY PLAYERS I.E. CENTRAL AND STATE GOVT FOR LITERACY CAMPAIGN:

Under this activity one Meeting was held on 13th October, 2014 at Kasturba Residential School Bassi Block. There were 10 participants for the meeting. From the project, Sakhi, Mr. Rajender Kumar Sharma, Ms. Indira Sharma and Mr. Bindu Rao had participated. Mr. Rajender Kumar Sharma shared the activities of the Project with the self introduction of the participants. In the meeting Miss Darshna Chaturvedi, the warden of the Kasturba Gandhi Residential school, told that the annual target of 50 students was allotted to the school. In the school they provided the qualitative and creative education with games to the girls. She said that at present 100 girls are from the project area of Sakhi in the school.

Training on Kitchen Garden:

This event was conducted on 17th October, 2014 in a village called Gothra on “ Kitchen Gardening”. 15 adolescent girls were participants for the event. Mr. Rajender Sharma started the program with the self introduction of the participants along with the objective of the project with brief introduction of JSKS. Mr. Raji Lal Meena, the Supervisor from Agriculture Research Centre Durgapur, Jaipur, was the resource person of the training. Mr. Meena gave very good orientation to girls and provided them with the seeds packets of 50 gm each of the cash crops like Tomato, Chilli and Brinjals.

  • Present status of Sex Ration and its defects to the society.
  • Animator shared knowledge on natural family Planning, further she added that repeated pregnancy becomes the cause of Anemia among women
  • Indra Sharma Community Animator highlighted on Birth Spacing Methods such as Copper –T, Condom, Oral Pills etc
  • Rajendra Sharma gave information of some of the Govt. schemes namely, the Subhlaxmi Yojana and the Janni Shishu Surksya Yojana etc.

Exposure Visits to Post Office, Bank, Police Station, Family Court, AWC etc:

An exposure visit of Adolescent girls from different villages of the project area was held on 18th November, 2014. There were 30 adolescent girls as participants for the visit. During the Exposure Visit they got chance to visit the police station, the family court, the bank etc. The main purpose of the exposure visit was to orient the adolescent girls with a minimum knowledge regarding the above institutions. The exposure began with visiting the police station of Bassi Block. Mr. Mishri Lal the ASI gave an orientation filing an FIR, the Police help Line, the women desk and complete process and functions of the police station. Our second visit was of the cooperative banks of the Bassi Block, where Mr. Dinesh Kumar, the Manger of the bank oriented the visitors with complete process from form filling up to opening an account and transaction of the amount, he also shared complete functions of the Bank. The third visit was of the family court of Bassi Block. Mr. Kailash Sharma, the advocate oriented on the family court and its functions and complete procedure. He also spoke on the Domestic Violence Act 2005. The girls were very curious to acquire more information and knowledge.

  • The resource person focused on the process of how to open a bank account and procedure of filling forms related to the banks such as withdrawal slip, deposit slip and how to fill up the form to open an account etc.
  • They focused on the RTI Act and the process of acquiring information,
  • They focused on FIR, Legal rights – Women Help Desk and the Contact Numbers,
  • Adolescent girls were given confidence and encouragement to file an FIR, and get information from any department through filing application of RTI and opening an account in the bank.

STREET PLAY

TRAINING PROGRAM ON BASIC ELECTRICAL COURSE

  • The aim and objective of the training was highlighted by Rajendra Sharma
  • Haidar Ali explained the basic functioning of the electrical devices such as wiring of board, fuse, functioning of power plugs, fans, motors, pumps and other small machines
  • Lawrence, the director of JSKS, explained the mechanism and principles and functioning of basic electrical equipments and devices
  • The JSKS director also explained the use and the care and precautions to be taken while handling electrical devices.
  • Some adolescent girls were given practice on wiring the switch board.
  • As they gave the feedback it was clear that most of the girls profited some basic knowledge and information regarding the same.

Training Programme by UKSVK, Agra:

  1. Training on Pre-Marital & Post Marital and MRGT Programme:

Training & MRGT Programe was organized by UKSVK from 25-28 of August, 2014 at Karnal in Hariyana State. The programe began with lighting the lamp and payer song. 34 people from Rajasthan, UP and Uttarakhand participated in it. Fr. K. Jose, Sr. Sita & Mrs. Liza were the resource persons. The training was on Pre and Post Marital Counseling. They spoke elaborately on top of marriage and structure of the human body and its functions. A documentary film relevant to the subject, ‘Yovan Sarita’, was shown. There were group exercises conducted for all the participants.

Mrs. Liza threw some light to marriage and family life along with the problems that are faced during pre-marital and post marital stages and the possible solutions to overcome them. She conducted some games also. There were presentations made by 12 DSSS one by one, followed by there were discussion on the presentations.

  1. Training on Domestic Violence Act. 2005 (For Sakhi Staff by UKSVK):

Training was organized on Domestic Violence Act 2005 at Meerut Seva Samaj by UKSVK, Agra from 25th to 27th of November 2014. Participants from 12 Dioceses had participated in the Training. Training was conducted theoretically and by mock sessions. Participants were divided into 4 groups then held the different sessions to understand better.

Training Programme by JSKS, Dausa:

  1. Training on Staff Capacity Building:

Two days’ training on Capacity Building was organized by JSKS at its centre at Dausa on 5th& 6th of September 2014. Sr. Ranjana and Mr. A.B Paul were the resource persons. There were different topics dealt during the training which were very informative and enlightening for the staff. Sr. Ranjana gave a one day session on Gender. Mr. Paul took sessions on Human Rights with special focus on Domestic Violence. There were group exercises pertaining to the topics conducted. All the twenty two staff members were present for the training.

Staff Orientation Programme:

  1. An orientation programme for the Sakhi staff was organized on 7th July at the Jeevandhara office. The programme was conducted by the director, the programme manager, and the women coordinator. Mr. Rajendra Sharma highlighted the aims, objectives and activities of the Sakhi project. The director asked the staff to prepare a six months’ action plan, and instructed them on the responsibilities of the coordinator, the animators and the vocational instructor. He insisted on concentrating more on positive results and the changes to be attained, rather than just conducting the activities and then forgetting them. The programme manager introduced the reporting format for the monthly review meeting. Sr. Ranjana spoke on the need to pay more attention on ensuring better participation of parents during the parent-teachers and adolescent meetings.
  1. Staff Orientation for the Sakhi project was conducted at JSKS meeting hall on 17th November, 2014. The orientation was on Proper Planning of a month conducted by the program manager, A.B. Paul through PPT. Fr. Lawrence, the director of JSKS, admonished that the budget must be prepared in advance for the quality-based activities to be accomplished on time.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WORKSHOP

  • Ms . Kalpana Gupta, the district coordinator of CFAR NGOs, explained the Gender Ratio in Rajasthan especially in Jaipur district.
  • Ashok Yogi SDO of the Bassi Block brought light on gender discrimination & PCNDTP Act.
  • Rajendra Sharma spoke on the Gender Equality.
  • CFAR NGO conducted a quiz competition on gender.
  • Certificates and prizes were distributed by SDO for the first, the second and the third winners of boys and Girls
  • Bhamashah camp: Mrs. Bindu Rao, the animator of Sakhi project, participated in the Bhamashah camp in Tehtara Panchayat head quarter. She helped 13 people for filling up the forms for obtaining Adhar Cards and 27 people for Bhamashah forms.

Celebrations:

  1. Independence Day celebration was conducted on 15 August in U.P.S. School Ramjipura village. There were 300 participants. A street play was presented by Shobha & Vijay Kishori Group on child marriage. Essay Competition in Ramjipura School on Independence Day was organized by JSKS and the winners were awarded.
  1. Literacy Day Celebration was conducted in Maliyo Ki Dhani and Ramjipura village on 08th September. There were 62 participated. The animators explained on girls’ education and gender discrimination. All the adolescent girls shouted slogans on girls’ literacy and took an oath to prevent child marriage.
  2. 3. Deepawali Celebration: Festival of Diwali was celebrated in the JSKS Office by Staff on 21.10.2014. In celebration they enjoyed themselves with fire crackers and sweet.
  1. Christmas Celebration: Christmas was celebrated on 23th December, 2014 at Jeevandhara Samaj Kalyan Sanstha, Dausa. To add color to the celebrations there was an exhibition of the birth of “Jesus Christ”. The carol was sung by the staff. A few games were played. Gifts with cake were distributed to staff. In the end, Fr. Lawrence, the director of JSKS, gave a short message on Christmas and he also prayed for all.



OBJECTIVE:1.To Promote Adolescent Girl Leaders and Strengthen Girls’ Forum

Ø Teachers & Community workers were co-operating the Sakhi activities.
OBJECTIVE:2.Decrease the number of girls who marry or give birth before the age of 18
Home visits by the animators 22 home visit activities by animators in target villages. 175 participants present there. During their visit they emphasized on Girls’ Education, right age of marriage, family planning and domestic violence & pre-marital & post-marital counseling. These visits by the animators have created more awareness on the existing girls’ issues among the beneficiaries in the village. Ø Parents were sensitized on child marriage.

Ø 2 Adolescent girls had taken decision & denied early marriage.

Lobbying with the Govt. authorities to prevent child marriages. Two meetings were conducted on 20th August at Jatwara and Patan Panchayat. 29 PRI members and Anganwadi workers were present in it. Discussion on the disadvantages of child marriage and also on the possibilities of reducing it and the PRI members and the AWWs were motivated to work towards it. Govt. staffs were sensitized on Child Marriage. They would take active participation in our activities and would advocate and address these issues for the development of the village.
Family planning sessions with newly married couples. Two sessions conducted at Khedlawas and Gothara villages. 19 newly married Couples present in its. They got knowledge on Natural Family Planning, further she added that repeated pregnancy becomes the cause of Anemia.

They got information on Birth Spacing Methods such as Copper –T, Condom, Oral Pills etc

They gave information about some Govt. schemes such as Subhlaxmi Yojana and Janni Shishu Surksya Yojana etc

Ø Newly married Couples were sensitized on family planning and they were use Birth Spacing Methods.
OBJECTIVE: 3. Educating Adolescent Girls on Reproductive And Sexual Health.
Demonstration of “Knowing Our Body” program for AGs 5 programmes were conducted. 162adolescent girls were present there. Adolescent girls were instructed to live with cleanliness and they were sensitized on their health Health status 0f girls has improved
Regular classes on “Menstrual System and Hygiene”. Six sessions were conducted. 191 adolescent girls participated in these classes. Adolescent girls were active and took decision on keeping personal hygiene Adolescent girls are aware of menstrual system.
Conducting AIDS awareness program and “Kishori Swastha Sivir”(Adolescent health camp) 4 AIDS awareness programmes were conducted in target villages. There were 237 participants.

1 Kishori Swastha Shivir was conducted at Jatwara Panchat head quarter village. 195 adolescent girls were present for the same.

Participants were sensitized on AIDS and their attitudes and approaches changed on the issue

Adolescent girls were getting benefits like free health checkup and medicine.

Participants have became aware on HIV/AIDS..
OBJECTIVE: 4. Exposure visits to their vicinity for AGS.
Exposure visits to post office, bank, police station, family court, AWC etc One exposure visit conducted at the Block office Bassi. 30 adolescent girls were present in there. The scope of their thinking increased from the rural level to the district level. Their fear about these things were vanished
“Jago sakhi” (“Awake adolescent girls”) program with the help of various govt. personnel Five Jago Sakhi programmes conducted in rural level and the block level. There were 486 participants. Govt. officials took active participation in our activities and they supported us to achieve our project goals 115 adolescent girls found govt. scheme benefits.

17 adolescent girls have benefited from Nirmal bhart yojana.

Specific workshops on how to file an FIR? How to open a bank account and how to file RTI? Five workshops were conducted at office level and field level. 172 adolescent girls were present. Adolescent girls leaned about the RTI, the FIR. And they learned how to file them. 13 adolescent girls opened bank accounts.
OBJECTIVE: 5. Increasing ‘Stay in school concept
5.1) A triangular, “Girl friendly session” between parents, teachers and AGs. 4 triangular sessions were conducted at govt. schools in target villages. There were 244participants. Issues on girls were discussed and teachers and parents were aware of their roles and responsibilities. 3 adolescent girls appeared in the10th Examination by private studies.
Teacher sensitization program for equitable learning opportunities 4 Teacher Sensitization programmes were conducted at govt. schools. 65 teachers were present there. The teachers were sensitized and used different aspects to solve girls issues
Networking with the key players i.e. central and state govt. through SSA, MSY and KGBV  Two networking meetings were conducted with SSA and KGBV at the block level. 15 participants were present. The Kasturba Gandhi Residential school told that 50 students’ annual target.

They provided the qualitative and creative education with games to the girls.

Two adolescent girls were readmitted in the school.

9 adolescent girls were getting benefits of KGBV scheme.

OBJECTIVE: 6 Legal literacy and advocacy campaign, “ME AND MY FRIEND” for adolescent girls
Training on domestic violence act 2005’ for coordinators and animators One training programe were attended our staff at merut seva samaj. 36 participated their present from rajasthan. U.P.and uttarakhand . Our staffs get new information on domestic violence act.2005. Project staff has increased their knowledge and it is being shared in the field.
Training on “women domestic violence act 2005”. 12 training were conducted at target villages and office level. 334 adolescent girls were present there. Adolescents girls actively took decision in their villages for this issues 9 adolescent girls have overcome the domestic violence in their house by protesting against it
Workshops on advocacy campaign (property right) 4 workshops were organized at office and field level.10 adolescent girls were present there. It was found that most of the girls understood the concept of property right.

This activity helps the girls to know their equal right in property.

 Ms. Mamta Saini from Girdharwas village, an adolescent girl has acquired her right to maintenance from her Father through court case.
OBJECTIVE: 7.Sensitization of Boys towards Gender Injustice And Violence Against Girls
life skill training ( Relationship with girls) Six life sessions were conducted at govt. schools in target village. 202 participated present there. Boys are sensitized and behave equal with the girls
Training on gender distinction (Biological and Psychological)  Two training programmes were conducted at JSKS and Gothara village. 97 boys participated. Boys were made aware of the equality between girls and boys and also were informed of their physical changes
Behavior modification counseling sessions for boys.  4 sessions were conducted at govt. schools. There were 140 participants. Boys changed their mindset and attitude to live with equality with the girls
OBJECTIVE: 8. Flexible and Innovative Training Modules & Materials for the Demonstration of Adolescent Girls
Sex education There was preparatory training modules and some materials were given after the trainings. Thematic preparation for Health Exhibition programme was there.  The trainings and programme were held. Adolescent girls were given information and knowledge on the issue.

OBJECTIVE: 9.Establishment of information and counseling center for adolescent girls
Individual counseling sessions for personal issues 11 Individual counseling sessions were conducted by the Sakhi Team and the director, the women coordinator. 11 adolescent girl were present during the counseling from different villages. The Sakhi animators and women coordinator discussed with girls their personal issues and girls’ hesitation was subsided and their confidence increased 11 adolescent girls have

Overcome their family issues.

Group coun-on “Pre and Post marital Counseling Two Group count-on “Pre and Post Marital Counseling at Gothara & Girdharwas village. 47 adolescent girls were present there. Group work helped the girls to know the marital counseling and they cleared some doubts about it
Peer exchange program for better communication. 16 peer exchange programme were conducted at office level and rural level. 767 adolescent girls were present there. This activity gave a chance to girls to know what the activity is done by other groups and they adopted their ideas 115 adolescent girls and their families got benefits of govt. scheme such as Nirmal bhart yojana , scholarship, etc.
OBJECTIVE: 10.Upgrading the health status of AGs through “Swastha sakhi” program.
Kitchen garden training Program. One training programme conducted at AWW Gothara. 15 adolescent girls participated in training. Girls started kitchen garden and they were sensitized about saving water and got healthy vegetables in their house.

They got free seeds through by govt. department.

Providing training on “Food and Flag” for upgrading AGs health condition. 4 Trainings were organized at office and field level. 59 adolescent girls were present in trainings Girls knew about the importance of food and flag and they used it in daily life  39 adolescent girls were given nutrition foods.

24 adolescent girls were improved their health.

Conducting half yearly “Swastha Kishori Pratiyogita”( Healthy adolescent girls competition) and “Health Exhibition”.  1 Health Exhibition was conducted during a medical camp at Jatwara Panchayat head quarter village. 210 participated in it. Participants were shown poster & flex related to Anemia, HIV AIDS, Nutrition, menstrual system and govt. scheme related to health.
Training on Process of healthy cooking program  Due activity
OBJECTIVE: 11Raising their livelihood options through advance computer and stitching training.
Advance stitching training course (embroidery and croshia). Four batches of stitching training were conducted at Ramjipura,Dudhali Tali, Girdharwas , Gothara villages. 81 adolescent girls attended the tailoring classes. Girls started stitching clothes in the according to the fashion of the present time 13 adolescent girls are practicing tailoring.

2 adolescent girls began to earn from tailoring Rs 1500 per month.

Training program on basics of computer  Three batches were conducted at Maliyo ki Dhani, Tehtara, Meethawas village. 58 adolescent girls participated in trainings. Girls learned computer course and they used it in teaching other in their family members · Adolescent girls have acquired their knowledge on computer and few have purchased computer and practicing regularly.
Training on basic electrical course 1 Batch of training conducted at JSKS training hall. 40 adolescent girls participated in training Girls learned about use of electrical things at home and they know how to use it in practical life
OBJECTIVE: 12Continuous Community Mobilization through IEC and BCC training programs
Awareness generation through Nukkad Natak (street play). 12 Awareness generation programmes through street play were conducted in twelve target villages. 1819 people participated. Points and Issues covered through street play education and schemes, domestic violence act, gender equality, vaccination for better health. People have become aware about the social evils such as child marriage, domestic violence, health issues etc.
Poster exhibitions on issues relevant to the project. One Poster Exhibitions programme conducted at the Bassi block office. 300 participants were present. All the participants saw the poster which was related to Govt. schemes on Adolescent girls as Jyoti yojna, Palanhar Yojna etc. and got the information about these schemes.
Community exchange program 4 community exchange programmes were conducted and 101 participants were there. They were helped and provided the services in the activities.
VMCs formed. 7 VMCs formed in target villages .60 members joined in rural level.  They were informed of their roles, responsibilities, functions and

duties regarding the development for adolescents and through the Sakhi Project activities.

Challenges:

ü Embroidery and crosshair teachers are not available in the target villages so we have started only tailoring courses. We are looking out for a teacher.

ü Also due to the same reason, some activities could not be conducted.

ü Electricity cut was a big problem in computer center

ü We conducted training and programme for adolescent girls but there were a few of them. so we changed the strategy plan.


Concluding remarks:.

ü There was regular field visits by the coordinator to monitor the ongoing activities conducted by the Animators and field visits by the Director, Programme Manager and women coordinator to monitor the activities and events planned in the program. A review meeting of the staff is organized once in a month to review and evaluate the program and to give feedback based on the field visits and activity.

ü 65% rate of success and failure rate was of 35% in achieving the program

The project also will enable them to take better participation in social activities and decision making in the family and society. It will also enable them to look at the future with confidence.
