Tailoring
JSKS laid emphasis on skill development programmes and tailoring was one of them. To address this thought the organization developed a team who went to the target villages and conducted a survey. The project staffs identified those women and girls who were poor yet interested in learning the skill of cutting and stitching clothes. Soon after identification of beneficiaries, tailoring centres were set-up in the needy villages for SHG women and adolescent girls. The adolescent girls were motivated to enroll in the stitching course. The application forms were prepared and got them filled by the beneficiaries. Above 110 beneficiaries had attended the 3 months tailoring course. The stitching machines and materials were provided by JSKS to the vocational centers. Each participants were provided with a tailoring kit free of cost. The organization has already witnessed a series of success and the womn and girls have enjoyed the fruits of their hard work. They have started earning and has been quite successful in supporting their family and studies. The good news was that they have started getting small orders from big shops as well as from their village and nearby villages.
Beautician
We all know that it’s quite natural for girls to groom themselves so that they look beautiful and appealing to others. This inclination towards looking pretty was taken as a positive thinking. JSKS decided to include beautician course as a part of its on-going programmes. The project staffs also found a heavy demand from girls to start this particular course in their villages as undergoing such courses in big cities like Jaipur is very expensive. The organization acted very quickly and identified villages and beneficiaries as well as instructors. As a part of the training the girls learnt to do the basics such as threading, waxing, bleaching, facial, mehandi, bridal make-up and hair cutting. A good number of girls have started decorating their friends and relatives on various occasions such as engagement marriage and birthdays. They are earned enough to suffice their personal needs.

Candle making
A new initiative undertaken by JSKS in order to improve the monthly income of SHG women has been candle-making. It came as a need rather than a want. Since the art of making candle is easy and cost of raw materials is low this idea was a sure success. The project staff got a good response when they approached the women. A group of 15 enthusiastic women from various target villages have come forward and learnt the candle making techniques. This Diwali these women got many orders. So far the women have earned above Rs.6000. The organization has also supported them in creating a market for selling their candles. The candles made by these SHG women are purchased by schools, churches, local shops. The next step is to include more women and increase the production so that they get more orders. It’s very important to meet the deadline of delivery. Therefore, the women are being motivated to make sure that they meet the demand of the market on time.
